It's Immaterial

There's a story behind how I bought this album. There was a period, after I had dropped out of college, when my best friend Mike and I would regularly hit all the used CD stores in town and be a bad influence on each other. When one of us would ask the other "Which of these CDs should I buy?", the answer was invariably "Both (or all) of them!" This led to each of us having quite the CD collection, as well as each of us not having much money....

Anyway, for a while, it seemed like every time we went into a CD store, they had a copy of Life's Hard and Then You Die. Now, you would think that this would lead me to think that the album wasn't any good. After all, a lot of people had apparently bought it and not much liked it. But, instead, I found myself wanting the album, although I had certainly never heard of the band, nor heard any of their songs. (To this day, I don't believe that I've ever heard them on the radio, nor seen a video on TV.)

Eventually, I gave in and bought the album. And I loved it. I bought a compilation album I found, just because it had a remix of one of the songs. And eventually, I discovered that they recorded a follow-up, Song, which I was able to track down thanks to eBay.

And just now, thanks to Wikipedia, I've discovered that most of the band was originally in Yachts, another band that I know too little by.

Anyway, here's Driving Away From Home. Enjoy.

Album available from Amazon, as a pricey import.

A mission statement of sorts

What I'd really like to do is a podcast of all the types of music in my library. But that would require time and technology that I really don't have right now. So, to get my feet wet, so to speak, I figured I'd do a blog, focusing on one song at a time.

I'll be following the "standard" MP3 blog format - songs only around for a limited period of time, low bitrate, and links whenever possible to where you can buy the songs. That may not always be possible - I finally replaced my turntable, so at some point I'll be pulling out the old vinyl.

Anyway, real posts coming soon.
